My posts can show what a nincompoop I can be sometimes. I am soooo not used to Synaptic, because my distro of choice was Puppy Linux, where they either made a dotpet for software or you installed it manually. I love Puppy, but I wanted to try out other systems, as well, and I really liked the way gOS looks and feels, so I chose to explore it!
In the past, I've tried a lot of other distros (just about every one I could find!!!), and the only other one I liked this much was Xandros 3 OCE. I didn't mind the limitations of the Community Edition, because I have a slow cdrw speed, anyway, and there didn't seem to be a big difference in any other way.
Puppy was my main dawg, so to speak. I fell in love with the small size, the ease of use, and the wonderful forum they have. You can always get a friendly, respectful answer on their forum in almost no time flat, which I've come to realize is difficult to find in Linux forums, for some reason. A lot of people seem to think that just because I've installed Linux, I should be an expert at it. Well, I'm not, and I make NO apologies. I simply ask for patience. If I ask questions that SEEM dumb to you, please remember, I'm new to this. If I knew the answer or could FIND the answer on my own, I wouldn't be asking!!!
Ordinarily, I use Windows XP, but I'm aiming to become as Microsoft-free as possible.
Thanks for reading this,
Jack
