Hibernate

Postby Yerushalmi on Tue Feb 09, 2010 5:16 am

Hey folks,

I recently inherited an Eee PC 900a and installed UNR on it. However, I can't get it to hibernate under any circumstances, and I've pretty much run out of options and people/places/forums/channels to turn to for advice.

So now I'm in the market for a new OS. But I must reiterate that hibernate is absolutely essential for my needs - I might as well not have a computer without it. So my question is, how reliable is gOS at hibernating? On an EeePC in general or on netbooks in particular?

I would say, just as reliable as Ubuntu 8.04, because that is what gOS essentially is. It all depends on what driver support for sleep mode functions of your hardware there are. For eeePC's there are often specialized kernels that fix a number of issues with non standard hardware and options needed. gOS is NOT a distro specialized in netbooks.

Ah, thanks :). So what distros would you recommend?

A distro specifically designed for the eeePC.

gOS should also work fine, after you add the "adams kernel", (http://www.array.org/ubuntu/) that adds all the eeePC specific stuff.
specific eeePC distro's are "eeeBuntu", and "easypeasy:, especially the latter is quite popular, and has an interface optimized for netbooks.

Hehe - I actually have the exact same question posted on the forums of at least four such custom distros. I'm hoping to find someone with specific knowledge. This list will give me a lot more forums to post on, thanks! :)
