Is there a USB wireless device that works out of the box?

New to this so go gentle on me please!

I have installed GOS on an an Intel Atom PC that I plan to use as a media device with my TV (mainly for Spotify). Everything seems to work just fine apart from getting wireless connected. I've tried a couple of different devices with no luck. So

1. Does anyone know if there's a wireless USB dongle that is supported directly in GOS?
2. Failing that, is there an easy way to add the required driver for a wireless device?

Yes there are many, like the Digicom 8E4213 USB Wave 54. More info about network devices that work with gOS (Ubuntu 8.04) can be found here:https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkDevices.

If the USB dongle does not work "out of the box", not even after you connect wired to the Internet and let the automatic updater do its thing, there probably isn't a Linux driver available for that hardware. Normally you do not have to install drivers manually, they are either available and integrated, or no driver (or only experimental beta drivers) are available and these are not easy to install IF they exist.

i have a dlink dwl-g122 USB wireless and that worked out the box with a my wpa2 encryption key

Many systems (netbooks and notebooks) use an internal USB WiFi dongle, that can be exchanged for another.

well considering that gOS 3.1 is in essence Ubuntu 8.04 plus updates of the graphics plus a dock, plus added applications and WINE that is not surprising. If a (WiFi) driver is working on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) it is almost certain it will also work in gOS.

The only known (to me) exceptions are that gOS doesn't support serial communication drivers (for modems), nor does it support any wrappers (specifically not ndiswrapper), so installing Windows drivers on gOS is a lot more difficult on gOS, and its not exactly a fun thing to do on Ubuntu either. It also heavily deprecated by Linus Torvald and most of the Linux community, as it will heavily negatively affect both the stability and security of Linux, let alone that it carries heavy legal implications with it to "lend" windows drivers you might not have the legal right to use.
