Disappearing pointer & failure to wake up

On occasions, the pointer disappears but it is still functional. I just don't know where it is.
This happens with either PS2 optical mouse or USB mouse.
I have to reboot.]
Also, when I left the computer for a couple hours, it crashed.
Any idea what's going on ?.
